SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting-Film Screening: Exile and Community: The Life of Carola Domar
DESCRIPTION:Carola Domar escaped Nazi Germany in her teens and came to the States\, where she married and built a new life in Concord\, finding true belonging within the unique neighborhood of Conantum. In this documentary film\, she and her daughter tell the story of her persistent search for community. A high-spirited\, resourceful person\, Domar yearned as a young Jew for the social acceptance and German identity she once took for granted. She escaped in her teens and came to the U.S. on her own. Carola spent much of her life searching for a specific kind of community–one connected to nature and guided by modernist ideals–and ultimately found it in Concord\, MA. \nDomar’s story is all the more remarkable for the spirit of forgiveness with which she ultimately came to terms with her past and reconnected with her former homeland. Her story of exile and community has particular relevance in the context of current mass migration. \nNote the Different Monthly Meeting Location:\nThis film screening and discussion with Carola Domar’s daughter\, Erica D. Banderob\, and the film’s producer\, Susan Orleans Rieder\, will be held in the Parish Hall of the Trinity Episcopal Church. Please use the River Street entrance.

Please indicate which light summer food\, dessert\, or beverage you will be bringing to the event by no later that July 28th. \nWear your swimsuit and bring towel\, garden chair\, hat and sunscreen.  We have arranged for some overhead shading space.  There is a banister for entering the shallow end of the pool\, but there is no banister on the 4 steps to the deck. Should swimming not be your “cup of tea” then just come for a lite bite and conversation with friends. \nPlease also indicate in your RSVP if you will be bringing a backyard chair.

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting - Garden Party
DESCRIPTION:Garden Party at Pam and Mark Hanson’s home in Conantum. \nPam and Mark are avid gardeners\, and are sharing their sustainable landscape of flowers\, vegetables\, native bushes and flowering trees with Concord After 60 friends. Wear comfortable shoes if you would like to visit the gardens around the house. There is space both inside and out\, so we will have refreshments in the house\, with seating also outside in the shade if the weather is nice. Mark is also an avid composter and will happily show off his year-round composting efforts. There is limited parking right at the house\, so please park on one side of Holden Wood Road and walk up the short driveway. Those who need to\, may park up in the driveway. Come share a glass of wine or rhubarb sharbat (like lemonade with rhubarb) and light herbal snacks. Come rain or shine. \nFor the Hanson’s street address\, login and see the CA60-Contact-List\, or call Pam.
